Incontinence can be a contributor to increased fall risk for individuals. Understanding how to care for individuals who suffer bowel and bladder issues is an important aspect of care as well as a contributor to mitigating fall risk. During this session, individuals will learn about the regulatory requirements related to bowel and bladder care as well as in interpret the intent of the regulations. As well, learn about assessment considerations, interventions for care planning, and resources to be considered in meeting guidance for implementation.

    1. Identify regulatory requirements related to bowel and bladder care of residents in the SNFs.
    2. Interpret the intent of the regulations as it applies to clinical practice.
    3. Define terms as it relates to the evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence and catheter use.
    4. Analyze the regulatory components and necessary resources to be considered in meeting guidance for implementation.
    5. Discuss assessment considerations, interventions for care planning and program considerations.

Robin A. Bleier has worked in health care for the past 40 years in progressive roles starting from caregiver through COO, and now President of RB Health Partners, Inc., a national interdisciplinary full-service consultancy firm based in Tampa Bay, Florida.
